A societal categorized human misfit providing effective dog training in Boise, ID.

I’m Ashley Devine (they/them), the owner and head misfit of Mannered Misfits Dog Training. I’m a Professional Dog Trainer and hold a Fear Free certification in animal shelter and rescue.

Since 2015, I have been working with dogs and educating myself on modern and humane training methods. I spent six years employed at the Idaho Humane Society in Boise, ID.

My #1 goal working with clients and their dogs is to provide effective dog training with an emphasis on safety, empathy and trust. My training is best known as positive reinforcement based utilizing the Humane Hierarchy and Dr Eduardo Fernandez’s new LIFE approach (least inhibitive, functionally effective).

  • "We needed some help with management between our new pup and our 4 year old daughter, plus our older dog. Ashley came over and talked, showed, and had us practice different management techniques and easy redirection tactics we could use. They also helped our daughter understand what to do when the puppy was getting too excited around her. Puppies are a lot of work, but having Ashley’s assistance has helped our family understand one another - humans and dogs better and give our daughter (and my husband and I) tools we can use to have a more manageable relationship all around with our dogs."

  • Ashley is the only trainer I will ever trust with my dogs. They have been beyond knowledgeable with our dogs' habits and ours. It has helped us shape not only our dogs, but ourselves to have a strong, understanding relationship. We have been able to close in on reactivity opportunities with our large breed dog and better understanding of our puppy’s behavior and needs. The positive reinforcement method Ashley utilizes is proven and successful. Cannot wait to watch our pups evolve further!

  • I can't say enough about how much my dog and I love working with Ashley. My pup is reactive, and pretty anxious about most people and all other dogs. Ashley's No Fear approach to training has made all the difference! I've learned how to be a better dog guardian, and help my anxious dog navigate the world, and to build trust. My dog ADORES Ashley, and if you're looking for someone who will give you the support and training a human needs to be a good dog guardian, Mannered Misfits is the answer.

  • I'm unbelievably happy that my dog and I train with Ashley. My dog (Aebi) is reactive towards other dogs and people. Ashley has given us so many tools to use so now we can walk in the foothills or around our neighborhood stress free. Ashley also makes me feel good about the progress my dog and I are making and reassures us that we're on the right path.

  • We have been working with Ashley for a few months now and they are the best! We have three reactive dogs, all with their own individual issues, plus some issues between the dogs when they are inside the house. Before working with Ashley, we couldn't all be inside the house at the same time without chaos breaking out. But now we can all be in the same room with the proper management. We still have a ways to go with our pups, but we have learned so much about reading body language, recognizing thresholds, leash handling, and so much more.

  • My ungovernable borsset is more governable after Ashley's assistance. We are working through Spike's fear of strange men and counter surfing. We've met with lots of trainers before for our dogs and Ashley is truly top notch.

  • I would highly recommend Ashley as she is very professional, knowledgeable and very directive in her approach. After having a bad experience with a supposed dog trainer in the past, I was reluctant to have someone come in to train. Ashley helped me feel comfortable in her approach with our dogs and has helped a lot with my dogs reactivity. Hazel, Hugo & Chief appreciate her!

  • "Ashley really cares about dogs and their life experience. She taught us how to train our dog in a way that is caring, respectful, and punishment free. We learned a lot about dogs needs and how to meet them."

  • Ashley was absolutely wonderful to work with! They took time to understand our family's needs and offered practical, force-free management techniques and advice for enriching our dog's life. I really appreciated that after each session they offered feed back and notes to refer to. Thanks to them my dog and I enjoy our walks and everyone in the family has a better relationship with him. I would recommend Mannered Misfits to anyone who wants to improve their dog's quality of life through training and enrichment.

  • "Ashley was incredible to work with and helped us so much with our reactive dog's self-regulation and healthy habits! Our sessions were informative and fun, and we learned a lot to implement at home. I also appreciate how Ashley always checks in, makes sure things are going well, and provides extra resources and instruction. We highly recommend them!!"
